Does PacInfo offer DSL in my area?
PacInfo is an ISP (Internet Service Provider) for DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) offered through Qwest®. For the most part, if Qwest provides a DSL connection in your area (i.e. usually within a 3 mile radius of their substation), then PacInfo can provide Internet Service for such a connection. For actual coverage in your area, contact a Qwest DSL representative at 800.244.1111.

What's the difference between Bridged Ethernet and PPP?
PPP and Bridged Ethernet are both protocols or agreed upon method of communication between points or networks. PPP or point-to-point protocol, is used to create a virtual circuit between two computers or routers and information is routed between the two computers or networks. Bridging is used to connect two networks together to act as if they are both on the same local network. PacInfo subscribers can use either ppp or bridged ethernet, with ppp as the preferred protocol since it is more efficient. PPP also allows you to use more security features in the router.

Using PPP (Point to Point Protocol), all computers connected to the DSL modem make requests for information through the modem. The modem then acts as a gateway router sending and receiving information to and from the requesting computers.

How do I know if my DSL modem is trained?
There are several types and manufacturers of DSL modems. The two most common are Cisco and Intel. If you are using the Intel modem, a green LED light will usually indicate that your modem is properly trained. Similarly, if you use a Cisco series modem, a green LED labeled WAN will usually indicate that your modem is properly trained.

How do I transfer my Qwest® DSL ISP to PacInfo?
If you have MSN use the Qwest DSL Online Ordering Tool to switch your DSL ISP service. Go to the bottom of the page and click on the button labeled "Change Existing Service". You will be directed through several steps to change your existing ISP from MSN to PacInfo.
